Dragons Take Flight at Surrey Art Gallery

From March 7 to May 3, 2026, the Surrey Art Gallery transforms into a realm where dragons soar beyond myths and borders. In Mustaali Raj: Across the Fire, the artist reinvents the dragon as a shared story, connecting cultures through vivid colour and geometric form.

A Three-Screen Spectacle

This mesmerizing installation unfolds across three synchronized screens. Mustaali Raj reshapes the dragon’s traditional image into a bold, contemporary visual language. Bright hues and dynamic geometric patterns guide viewers through a journey where dragons move freely across land, culture, and imagination.

Stories That Travel

The dragons’ ever-shifting forms invite reflection on the way myths evolve and migrate. Each movement and colour shift tells a story that transcends geography, reminding visitors that cultural narratives are alive, fluid, and interconnected.

Curatorial Insight

Curated by Jas Lally, this exhibition celebrates myth-making as a universal human experience. By blending traditional symbolism with modern artistry, Raj encourages visitors to see dragons—and stories themselves—as shared treasures that cross cultural boundaries.
