Newton Child Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle, SPS Confirms

Newton child struck by vehicle has died

Surrey Police now confirm that the 9-year-old Newton child struck by vehicle on Friday has died. The crash happened December 5 in the 13400‑block of 81 Avenue and involved a large cube‑van style vehicle.

Paramedics took the child to hospital in critical condition. Despite treatment, the child did not survive.

Investigators review what happened

The SPS Collision Investigation Unit continues to handle the Newton child struck by vehicle file. Officers are reviewing scene evidence, mapping the collision, and interviewing everyone who was nearby.

Police say the driver stayed at the scene and is working with investigators. At this point, they do not believe impairment played a role, but they have not finished their analysis.

Police again ask for video and witnesses

Investigators again ask for help from the public with the Newton child struck by vehicle case. They want to hear from anyone who was on 81 Avenue between King George Boulevard and 134 Street around 2:35 p.m. on December 5.
