RICHMOND, B.C. — Residents across Richmond may experience temporary power interruptions and traffic delays this week as BC Hydro and the City of Richmond carry out scheduled infrastructure and construction work in multiple neighbourhoods.
According to BC Hydro, several planned power outages are set to occur between Monday and Friday to allow crews to perform maintenance and upgrades on electrical equipment. The outages will affect a limited number of customers at a time and are expected to last anywhere from one to eight hours, depending on the location and scope of work.
Areas impacted by planned outages include parts of Fairbrook Crescent, Fairhurst Road, Seacote Road, Seavale Road, Williams Road, Dakota Drive, and No. 1 Road. BC Hydro says the work is necessary to maintain system reliability and reduce the risk of unplanned outages in the future.
In addition to power interruptions, drivers should expect congestion and possible detours as multiple construction and utility projects continue across the city. Ongoing and short-term projects include road paving, sidewalk installation, underground utility work, pole replacements, and sewer upgrades.
Major traffic impacts are expected along Westminster Highway, Minoru Boulevard, No. 2 Road, No. 3 Road, Gilbert Road, Garden City Road, Steveston Highway, Railway Avenue, and surrounding residential streets. Some projects will take place during daytime hours, while others — particularly sewer and utility tie-ins — may require overnight work.
City officials are advising motorists to plan extra travel time, follow posted signage, and watch for traffic control personnel in construction zones. Residents living near work sites may also notice increased noise or restricted access during active construction periods.
Both BC Hydro and the City of Richmond encourage residents to check their official websites for the most up-to-date schedules and to sign up for outage notifications where available.
