A South Surrey shop break-in left a business owner heartbroken after a thief stole a tablet filled with her children’s irreplaceable videos.

A Daylight Break-In Shakes South Surrey

On a quiet December morning, a bold break-in rattled a small business in South Surrey. More importantly, it left a local mother grieving the loss of something money cannot replace. While thieves often take valuables, this crime cut far deeper.

Christina Marcano, owner of Silver Icing in the Campbell Heights area, arrived to shocking damage on Dec. 14. Someone had smashed through the front door in broad daylight. Although clothing and office items were taken, one item stood out above all others.

A Tablet Full of Memories Vanishes

Among the stolen items was an Amazon Fire tablet. While the device itself held little value, the contents meant everything. The tablet contained dozens of videos Marcano’s children had recorded over the years.

“It wasn’t worth much,” she explained. “But it held all those memories.”

She had brought the tablet from home to play music in the store, which had only opened weeks earlier. Unfortunately, she had not backed up the videos yet. Like many busy parents, she thought she would do it later. Sadly, later never came.

Surveillance Footage Reveals a Fast Theft

Security footage shows the suspect acted quickly. Wearing a mottled North Western hoodie and black pants, the individual shattered the front door and entered the store. Over the next four minutes, the suspect grabbed armfuls of clothing and office supplies before fleeing.

Because of the speed and confidence shown, the crime felt especially unsettling to Marcano and nearby business owners.

Police Continue the Investigation

Surrey Police Service confirmed they are actively investigating the incident. Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said officers responded around 11:40 a.m. on Dec. 14 to a business in the 3500-block of 190 Street.

Investigators believe multiple items were stolen. The Integrated Forensic Identification Service also attended the scene to collect evidence. So far, no arrests have been made.

Community Support Brings a Glimmer of Hope

After the break-in, Marcano shared her story on social media. Although she later removed the post, the response stayed with her. Messages of kindness poured in from the White Rock and South Surrey community.

She described the support as overwhelming and genuine. That encouragement now fuels her hope.

Although she has heard the tablet may have been sold, she still believes the person who finds it might recognize its emotional value. If that happens, she hopes they will turn it in.

“If anybody finds it,” she said, “that would mean everything.”
