Jury Trial Set for Four in South Surrey Shooting
The tragic June 2024 shooting of 28-year-old Yuvraj Goyal in South Surrey will move to a jury trial next year. Four men accused of first-degree murder are scheduled to face the court in a three-month trial beginning September 14, 2026, at B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.
Who’s Facing Charges
The accused include Surrey residents Manvir Basram, Sahib Basra, and Harkirat Jhutty, along with Keilon Francois from Ontario. Charges were formally announced on June 8, 2024, just a day after Goyal was discovered dead on the 900-block of 164 Street.
Crime Scene and Investigation
Police responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 9 a.m. on June 7. A burning vehicle was later found in the 18500-block of McMillan Road, in the Hazelmere area of South Surrey. The swift and coordinated efforts of Surrey RCMP, Air 1, and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
Investigators with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed that Goyal had no prior contact with law enforcement.
Court Proceedings
Following initial hearings in Surrey Provincial Court, which concluded on November 27, 2024, the case was transferred to B.C. Supreme Court. Three of the accused remain in pre-trial custody, while Basram has been released on bail, according to B.C. Prosecution Service officials.
What’s Next
The upcoming trial will provide an opportunity for a full examination of evidence, witness testimonies, and legal arguments surrounding this high-profile case. As the community awaits justice, law enforcement continues to emphasize public safety and transparency throughout the judicial process.
