Step Forward Health Society is heading into 2026 with new leadership and renewed plans to expand mental health support in the community.

The organization has welcomed Jack O’Halloran as its new Executive Director. O’Halloran brings more than 20 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector and a long-standing interest in community-based mental health care. His background includes program development, community partnerships, and helping organizations grow while keeping services accessible to those who need them most.

A Delta resident, he has been involved locally for many years,  including over a decade coaching minor hockey,  giving him a strong connection to families and youth in the area. That familiarity with the community, the organization says, is an important part of understanding the kinds of challenges residents face and how support services can best respond.

“I’m honoured to join an organization doing such vital work,” O’Halloran said. “Step Forward has built a strong foundation of trust and impact, and I’m excited to work alongside the Board, staff, and partners to expand access to mental health support for individuals and families who need it most.”

The society says the coming year will focus on both growth and access to care. Several programs are set to launch or expand, including Pain in the Arts, MenTOR, and the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) program. These initiatives aim to support individuals dealing with emotional regulation, identity, and life transitions through structured group and therapeutic environments.

At the same time, core services such as When Love Hurts, 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Mental Health support, and the Step Forward Program will continue. These programs address relationship safety, youth wellbeing, and general mental health support, areas the organization says remain in high demand.

With demand for services increasing across the region, the organization also plans to bring in a second service provider later this year. The goal is to reduce wait times while maintaining consistent, relationship-based care for clients who rely on ongoing support.

Community support remains an important part of the organization’s work. Donations, partnerships, and local awareness efforts help ensure counselling and group programs remain available to individuals who might otherwise struggle to access mental health services due to cost or availability.

Step Forward Health Society will also host its Move for Mental Health Walk on June 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration will take place at the Red Barn in the Southlands area of Tsawwassen. The event aims to bring residents together, raise awareness, and generate funds that directly support local programming. More details are expected to be shared closer to the date.
