A Surrey house fire sent one resident to hospital with critical injuries. Crews acted fast, contained the blaze, and ruled out arson.

A Quiet Afternoon Turns Chaotic

On Friday afternoon, calm streets in Surrey’s Cloverdale area suddenly filled with sirens. Shortly after 4:30 p.m., emergency crews rushed to a house fire on Jersey Drive. Meanwhile, neighbours watched as smoke poured into the sky. Then, firefighters moved in fast.

One Person Critically Injured

According to officials, one person lived inside the home. Fortunately, that resident made it outside. However, the injuries were severe. Paramedics treated the victim for serious burns. Soon after, a helicopter airlifted the person to hospital. At this time, the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Flames Rip Through Older Home

When crews arrived, flames were already visible. Specifically, fire burst from the ground floor of a two-storey, older wood-frame house. As a result, firefighters focused on stopping the spread. Thankfully, the blaze stayed contained to the property. Consequently, nearby homes were spared.

House Left Unlivable

Although the fire did not spread, the damage is extensive. As a result, officials say the house cannot be lived in. Fire crews remained on scene for hours. Meanwhile, investigators began their work.

No Signs of Foul Play

Importantly, investigators do not suspect arson or extortion. Instead, they continue to examine what sparked the fire. For now, the RCMP’s provincial operations support unit has taken over. More details are expected early next week.

Public Asked to Help

Meanwhile, police are asking for help. Anyone with information should contact Surrey Police Service non-emergency at 604-599-0502. Alternatively, tips can go to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

As the investigation continues, officials stress safety first. For now, the community waits for answers—and hopes for recovery.
