Police Uncover Alleged $1M Trailer Theft Network
A months-long investigation into stolen semi-trailers has led to a series of Criminal Code charges against a Surrey man. Police say the case spans multiple cities and involves trailers valued at more than $1 million.
Surrey Police Service’s Prolific Offender Unit launched the probe in December 2024 after a semi-trailer dealer in Surrey reported that 14 trailers had vanished.
Investigation Spreads Across Provinces
As officers followed leads, the case quickly expanded beyond Surrey. Reports of similar stolen trailers surfaced in Abbotsford, Chilliwack and even Calgary. Because of that, investigators worked with partner agencies to track movements and recover property.
Eventually, officers identified a suspect. They then executed multiple search warrants at properties in Surrey and Chilliwack. During those searches, police seized several semi-trailers along with tools and vehicles believed to be connected to the investigation.
Charges Approved by Crown
On January 28, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved numerous charges against 42-year-old Amandeep Singh Dhaliwal.
The charges include:
• 9 counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000
• 5 counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000
• 6 counts of altering, removing or obliterating a vehicle identification number without lawful excuse
Police allege that vehicle identification numbers, commonly known as VINs, were tampered with in an effort to conceal the trailers’ origins.
Arrest and Court Date
Surrey Police arrested Dhaliwal on February 11, 2026. He has since been released on bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 18, 2026, in Surrey Provincial Court.
Because the matter is now before the courts, police say they will not comment further on the evidence.
Inter-Agency Cooperation Highlighted
Surrey Police Service thanked the Calgary Police Service’s General Investigations Unit for assisting with the case. Investigators say cross-jurisdictional cooperation played a key role in identifying the suspect and recovering stolen property.
As the case moves through court, police continue to remind businesses to report suspicious activity quickly, especially when high-value commercial equipment is involved.
