Surrey police notify IIO after officer-involved shooting; individual treated for minor injuries. Investigation underway.
Surrey Police Report Officer-Involved Shooting
Surrey Police Service has informed the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) about an officer-involved shooting that left an individual injured.
The incident occurred just before 8:00 pm on March 29, 2026, in the 13400 block of 81 Avenue. Frontline officers responded to a call reporting a person with a weapon. When officers attempted to detain the individual, the man allegedly confronted them with an edged weapon, prompting officers to fire their service weapons, including a duty pistol.
Immediate Medical Response
BC Emergency Health Services paramedics, alongside officers, provided on-site medical care. The individual was quickly transported to hospital and is receiving treatment for minor injuries.
IIO Takes Over Investigation
Following the incident, the IIO BC asserted jurisdiction and is now leading an independent investigation into the police actions. Surrey Police have confirmed they will not release additional details while the investigation is ongoing.
