A Surrey auto shop is hit by gunfire again as extortion cases surge past 130 this year. Police ask for tips, CCTV, and dashcam footage.
Early-Morning Gunfire Sparks Alarm
Just before sunrise on Thursday, Surrey saw trouble return. A local shop, Star Auto Body, near 82 Avenue and 124 Street, took gunfire for the second time, and the community felt the impact right away. The clock hit about 3:30 a.m., and shots rang out. Then, the suspect sped off in a dark vehicle, and the quiet street shifted into tension once more.
Damage Found Hours Later
Later that morning, at around 7:45 a.m., an employee walked in for work. Right away, they saw the bullet damage, and they quickly called police. Thankfully, nobody was inside when the shots hit, and nobody got hurt. Even so, fear grew fast, especially because this shop had already been targeted once before, and now it faced the same threat again.
Police Seek Tips as Cases Surge
Because this shooting links to a growing list of extortion cases, investigators want help as fast as possible. And they say every video clip matters. So, Surrey Police are asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or details about who may be involved to speak up now. People can call the non-emergency line at 604-599-0502, the Surrey extortion tip line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Extortion Numbers Keep Climbing
So far this year, Surrey and Abbotsford have seen more than 130 extortion cases, and each one adds stress to already-shaken business owners. And while police continue to push back hard, the pressure keeps rising, and so does community worry.
