Maple Ridge woman linked to Surrey Six gangster found dead; partner pleads guilty to interfering with remains as investigation continues.
Mystery Surrounds Maple Ridge Woman’s Death
A shocking discovery in Maple Ridge has tied a tragic death to one of B.C.’s most notorious gang figures. Jessica Cunningham, 43, whose body was found in a deep freezer last summer, was married to Cody Rae Haevischer, a former Red Scorpion convicted in the infamous Surrey Six murders.
The chilling connection has drawn renewed attention to the case, as details of her death and her partner’s criminal history come to light.
Life Married to a Surrey Six Convict
Estate documents confirm Cunningham’s marriage to Haevischer, who was sentenced in 2014 for six counts of first-degree murder related to the 2007 Surrey Six killings at Balmoral Tower in Surrey. Those murders, considered the deadliest gang-related shooting in B.C.’s history, claimed the lives of six people, including two innocent bystanders.
Haevischer and another gang member, Matthew Johnston, argued that police misconduct and poor prison conditions affected their trial. In 2023, the Supreme Court of Canada ordered a new evidentiary hearing, acknowledging flaws in the investigation. Haevischer’s legal challenges continue, with financial hearings scheduled for this spring.
Disturbing Details of Cunningham’s Death
Cunningham was last seen in June 2025. Authorities later learned that her partner, 48-year-old Mylie Barron, pleaded guilty to interfering with her remains between May and August. Court documents reveal the couple lived together in an upper unit on Gillis Place since early 2024, often using drugs such as cocaine and meth.
A wellness check on July 25, prompted by concern from their landlord, led police to Barron, who initially claimed Cunningham was in Victoria. In late August, police discovered a human arm in a garbage bag inside a deep freezer at the home. Barron was immediately arrested, and subsequent searches confirmed Cunningham’s body was inside.
Legal Proceedings and Safety Concerns
Barron remains in custody and is set to be sentenced on March 5 in Port Coquitlam. Defence lawyers have requested certain court documents be sealed, citing safety concerns for Barron while in custody. The court heard that Cunningham was married to a “notorious” individual, clearly alluding to Haevischer’s high-profile criminal past.
The investigation into Cunningham’s cause of death is ongoing, leaving the community with lingering questions about how such a tragedy could unfold in their midst.
