Surrey celebrates the opening of the $132M Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex, delivering year-round ice, community spaces, and new recreation options.

A Major Win for Surrey’s Recreation Scene

Surrey has a brand-new reason to celebrate. And this time, it comes on ice. Graham Construction has officially wrapped up work on the Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex, a $132-million project designed to bring year-round recreation to the growing community. Because the doors are now open, families, athletes, and local groups can finally enjoy a space built for connection, movement, and fun.

Inside the Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex

At 95,000 square feet, the facility delivers both size and flexibility. It features two NHL-sized ice rinks, and those rinks can quickly switch between ice and dry-floor use. As a result, the complex supports hockey, figure skating, skating lessons, lacrosse, ball hockey, and public skating throughout the year.

In addition, the arena offers seating for up to 400 spectators. So fans can comfortably cheer from the stands while games and events unfold on the ice.

Designed for Community, Comfort, and Convenience

Beyond the rinks, the building includes multi-purpose community rooms, modern dressing rooms, and a full refrigeration plant. It also features mechanical rooms, server space, meeting rooms, staff offices, and public washrooms. Meanwhile, a welcoming lobby brings everything together with reception services and skate rentals.

Outside, the project added a new roadway extension, upgraded utilities, and parking for about 200 vehicles. Landscaping completes the site, and therefore makes the complex easy to access and pleasant to visit.

On Time, On Budget, and Built to Perform

Construction began in the summer of 2022, and the project finished on schedule and within budget. TKA+D Architecture and RDHA Architects led the design, while Graham Construction managed delivery from start to finish.

Scott Fletcher, operations director at Graham, highlighted the teamwork behind the scenes. He explained that complex systems, from structure to refrigeration, required close coordination. And because of that collaboration, everything now works smoothly together.

Most importantly, Fletcher pointed to the long-term impact. The facility gives Surrey families and athletes more chances to play, connect, and grow all year long.

Another Milestone for Graham Construction

The Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex strengthens Graham’s growing portfolio of sport and recreation facilities across Canada. Recently, Graham and Stantec were also chosen to deliver the $152-million Brantford Sports and Entertainment Centre in Ontario.

Elsewhere, the company has completed the Southeast Event Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba, and the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Meanwhile, work continues on the Cameron Community Centre and Library in Burnaby, British Columbia.

A New Hub for Year-Round Activity

With its completion, the Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex becomes more than just a building. Instead, it stands as a new hub for recreation, community life, and shared experiences in Surrey. And as skates hit the ice and crowds fill the seats, the true value of the project will continue to unfold.
