One of Surrey’s Biggest Annual Celebrations
The Khalsa Day Vaisakhi Parade is set to return on April 18, bringing together tens of thousands of attendees from across the Lower Mainland and beyond.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., beginning at the Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar Temple on 85 Avenue. Visitors can expect vibrant cultural floats, live music, performances, and a wide variety of food offerings.
Safety a Top Priority for Police
With such large crowds expected, Surrey Police Service (SPS) is putting extra focus on public safety. Officials say that every year, officers respond to incidents involving missing children and elderly individuals due to the size of the gathering.
To address this, SPS has worked closely with city officials and event organizers to develop a comprehensive safety plan aligned with provincial guidelines for large events.
Important Safety Tips for Attendees
Police are encouraging everyone to take simple precautions to stay safe:
- Take a group photo before arriving, so you have a recent image if someone gets separated
- Decide on a meeting point ahead of time
- Carry identification at all times
- Keep children close and ensure they have contact details with them
- Report missing persons immediately to nearby officers
Additionally, attendees are advised to leave pets at home, as loud environments and crowded spaces can be overwhelming for animals.
Road Closures and Traffic Disruptions
Drivers should prepare for significant road closures and delays throughout Surrey on parade day.
- Closures begin as early as 6:00 a.m.
- Full road restrictions will be in effect from 7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Major delays are expected between 72 Avenue to 88 Avenue and Scott Road to King George Boulevard
Residents within restricted zones will need valid identification showing their address to pass through police checkpoints.
Parking and Access Information
Special parking passes are required for businesses and staff located within the parade area. These passes only allow access to designated zones before the event begins.
After early morning cut-off times, no vehicles will be permitted inside the parade route, even for those with passes, until the event concludes.

Authorities are urging everyone to plan their day in advance—whether attending the parade or traveling through Surrey. Using alternate routes and allowing extra time for travel will help avoid frustration.
