Surrey Residents Can Snag $20 Trees This Spring
Surrey, B.C. – Good news for green thumbs and nature lovers: Surrey’s popular $20 tree sales are back this spring! Homeowners now have an affordable way to add beauty to their property while helping expand the city’s urban forest.
The first online sale kicks off March 3 at 9 a.m., with tree pick-up scheduled for March 29 at the Surrey Operations Centre. A second round opens April 28, with pick-up on May 24.
Planting Trees Makes a Big Difference
Mayor Brenda Locke highlighted the benefits: “Every tree planted strengthens our urban forest and improves quality of life in Surrey. Trees provide shade, enhance air and water quality, and reduce stormwater runoff. By offering high-quality, affordable trees, we’re helping residents make their neighborhoods healthier and more sustainable.”
Since the program began in 2020, nearly 23,000 trees have found new homes in Surrey, often selling out within hours. This spring, residents can choose from a variety of fruit and ornamental trees, including apple, cherry, plum, fig, dogwood, maple, and magnolia. Each tree is carefully selected for its suitability to Surrey’s climate, popularity with homeowners, and its contribution to local biodiversity.
How the Sale Works
The City hosts four online tree sales each year, offering 1,000 trees per sale on a first-come, first-served basis.
Rob Landucci, Surrey’s urban forestry manager, emphasized the program’s impact: “With 58% of Surrey’s tree canopy on private property, homeowner participation is key to reaching our goal of 30% canopy cover by 2038. The tree sale program is an easy, effective way for residents to help protect and grow our urban forest.”
