Ride through Surrey’s glowing holiday wonderland on the Bear Creek Christmas Train, now drawing record crowds with lights, characters, crafts and Santa visits.

A Bright Ride Through a Winter Storybook

The Bear Creek Christmas Train is rolling again, and the popular Surrey ride is drawing more families than ever. The 12-minute trip glows with festive displays, and the lights guide riders through scenes filled with cheerful characters, sparkling reindeer, shining mini-trains, colorful tunnels and even a classic manger scene. The train runs through December, and both daytime and nighttime rides add extra cheer as the holidays get closer.

More Riders Arrive After Another Park’s Train Stays Closed

Operator Jassy Kaur says crowds are growing, especially because Stanley Park’s usual holiday train is not running this year. As a result, many Vancouver families are now heading to Surrey instead. And because riders keep sharing glowing reviews, even more visitors are showing up.

A Family Experience Built With Care

Kaur and her small team work long days to keep the attraction fun and affordable. The ride costs $12.50, and kids under two ride for free. Every year, the crew refreshes the scenes, and this year the tunnel has been completely redesigned. Kids love the characters, while adults enjoy low-priced treats at the concession stand. Families can relax, enjoy warm drinks and take in the glowing displays without worrying about extra holiday costs.

A Legacy Ride That Keeps Growing

Kaur has operated the train for nine years on land leased from the City of Surrey. She took over from longtime operator Linda Penn, who started the attraction with her husband Dave back in 1997. Kaur still talks with Penn often, and she says each holiday season brings something new. Because the train also runs for Halloween and Easter, the park stays busy all year. Halloween used to be the biggest draw, yet Christmas now shares the top spot.

Extra Activities Add Even More Holiday Magic

Kids can join craft tables, meet Santa, wave to the Grinch at the station and watch movies while waiting under cover. The train runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for day rides and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for illuminated night rides, except Monday and Tuesday nights. Tickets are available online or at the station at 13750 88 Ave., Surrey, where parking is free.

Important Dates to Remember

Santa leaves for the North Pole on Dec. 24 at 4:45 p.m., and the train closes for Christmas Day. The final night ride of the season rolls on Sunday, Dec. 28.
