New Year’s Day collision in Campbell Heights
Surrey Police Service says the collision happened Jan. 1 around 5:20 p.m. near 32 Avenue and 194 Street in Campbell Heights. The crash involved a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles at the Surrey-Langley border.
Police, Surrey Fire Service and B.C. Emergency Health Services all responded to the scene. Firefighters reportedly used the Jaws of Life to free people from one of the vehicles as traffic backed up along 32 Avenue.
Three people hospitalized, two critically hurt
Paramedics transported three occupants from the two passenger vehicles to hospital. Two of those patients were initially described as being in critical condition. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not suffer injuries in the collision.
A freelance photographer on scene reported seeing one person in handcuffs. However, police have not yet released details about potential charges or arrests.
Road closures and ongoing investigation
The crash forced the closure of 32 Avenue between 194 Street and 196 Street for much of the evening. Drivers faced detours while investigators documented the scene and collision analysts worked to determine how the impact unfolded.
