Tractor-trailer rollover in Surrey shuts down 16 Avenue

A tractor-trailer rollover in Surrey closed a key East–West route in South Surrey on Wednesday. The collision happened on 16 Avenue between 176 Street and 184 Street, a corridor many drivers use to reach Highway 15 and the U.S. border.

Surrey Police say the tractor-trailer rollover in Surrey did not result in any reported injuries. Even so, officers shut down the entire stretch of 16 Avenue to keep emergency crews and tow operators safe while they dealt with the damaged rig.

Expect delays while crews clear the crash

Police advised drivers to avoid the area for about two hours after the tractor-trailer rollover in Surrey. Detours sent traffic onto nearby routes, which slowed movement through South Surrey and the agricultural area around 176 Street.

Crews worked to right the truck, clean up debris and check for any fluid spills before reopening the road sometime after 5 p.m. Once the truck left the scene and inspectors confirmed the pavement was safe, 16 Avenue returned to normal use.

Safety reminder for South Surrey commuters

The tractor-trailer rollover in Surrey serves as a reminder that crashes on rural‑style arterials can still have big impacts. 16 Avenue carries commuters, commercial trucks and farm traffic, often at higher speeds and with limited shoulders.

Police urge drivers to leave extra space around large trucks, slow down in poor weather and stay alert for sudden stops on routes like 16 Avenue. They also recommend planning alternate routes when major incidents occur, as closures on this corridor can quickly back up traffic toward Highway 99 and other South Surrey roads.
