Two Seniors Killed in Deadly RV Fire in Yankee Flats
A heartbreaking fire in Yankee Flats on Saturday night took the lives of two senior residents. The blaze erupted around 8:30 p.m. in a modified recreational vehicle, according to the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD).
A neighbor reported seeing the RV fully ablaze, describing it as “actively burning” before emergency crews arrived.
Firefighters Responded Quickly, but Could Not Save Residents
Despite the rapid response by the Silver Creek Fire Department, the RV was completely engulfed in flames upon arrival. The Falkland Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
“The loss of these two individuals is deeply saddening,” said CSRD Fire Chief Sean Coubrough. “Our hearts go out to their families and friends. We share in their grief.”
Investigation and Support Underway
Preliminary investigations confirmed the deaths of the two seniors. The CSRD noted that the Office of the Fire Commissioner and the Coroner’s Office are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Mental health support is being offered to the responding firefighters, following standard protocols for traumatic incidents.
