Vancouver Aquarium reveals plans for a new seal habitat with an underwater tunnel, improved accessibility, and exciting visitor spaces.
Major Upgrades Coming to Vancouver Aquarium
Vancouver’s beloved aquarium is gearing up for an exciting transformation. Plans recently submitted to the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation outline a “rehabilitation and repair project” set to refresh the aquarium’s outdoor areas.
The updates focus on the BC Wild Coast pools, home to the facility’s playful seals and sea lions. Visitors can expect bigger circulation areas, more weather-protected spaces, and better accessibility throughout the site.
A Sneak Peek at the New Designs
Early sketches of the project reveal a unique tunnel running beneath one of the pools. This feature could offer visitors an up-close view of the marine residents, creating an immersive experience like no other.
A new themed habitat is also on the agenda, though the aquarium is keeping details under wraps for now. “We are in the early planning stages of exciting exhibit enhancements and look forward to sharing more details with the public in the coming months,” said spokesperson Todd Hauptman.
Timeline and Visitor Experience
Construction is expected to begin in September 2026, with a grand reopening planned for late 2027. Once complete, guests can anticipate a refreshed outdoor environment designed for comfort, engagement, and accessibility.
The Vancouver Aquarium’s proposed updates promise to elevate the visitor experience while keeping its marine residents at the heart of the attraction.
