Looking for memorable ways to spend time together as a family? Discover Surrey BC’s Signature Experiences invite kids and parents to step into adventures that combine creativity, curiosity, and connection.

From the hum of honeybees to the swirl of cupcake frosting and the calm of birdwatching at dawn, these experiences highlight Surrey’s love for nature, craftsmanship, and family-friendly learning. Each program runs annually in its own season, giving families something special to look forward to every year.

Honeybee Centre: Nature’s Marvels Up Close

At the Honeybee Centre, families discover the fascinating world of pollinators through immersive, hands-on programs.

Every year from June through mid-August, the popular Hive Tour (Honeybee 101) offers a close-up look at bees in action, running two to four times a month. For the rest of the year, from August 16 through May 31, families can enjoy Beeswax Creations—creative workshops held monthly where participants craft candles and art pieces using pure beeswax.

Tickets range from $40–$52 per person, and both programs are available year after year, making the Honeybee Centre one of Surrey’s sweetest family traditions.

Mann & Co. Bakeshop: Creative Cupcake Decorating

At Mann & Co. Bakeshop, culinary play takes centre stage. Under the guidance of Chef Jujhar Mann, a Food Network personality and award-winning pastry chef, families learn to decorate cupcakes with flair.

These interactive classes are held one to three times each month from August to April, typically on Wednesday or Thursday evenings (6:30–8:15 PM). Each participant decorates six cupcakes, samples signature flavours, and takes home both treats and new skills.

Priced at $99 per person, the workshops return every season, quickly becoming a staple for families seeking a creative night out together.

Bird Walks with Kris Cu: Discover Surrey’s Feathered Friends

For families drawn to the outdoors, guided bird walks with naturalist Kris Cu bring Surrey’s rich ecosystems to life. These expert-led walks happen throughout the year—four times monthly in May and June, and twice monthly from October through April—showcasing the Pacific Flyway’s incredible diversity.

Running from 7:30–9:30 AM, each walk includes binocular rentals and a warm beverage from a local café. Tickets are $50 per person, offering a relaxed and educational way to reconnect with nature while exploring Surrey’s wetlands and woodlands.

A Year-Round Invitation to Explore

From the classroom to the kitchen to the trail, Surrey’s Signature Experiences are designed to return each year—each season bringing its own flavour of discovery.

These programs, curated by Discover Surrey BC, aren’t just family outings—they’re opportunities to learn, create, and grow together. Whether you’re crafting beeswax candles, decorating cupcakes, or spotting herons on a misty morning, Surrey ensures every family can find its rhythm of exploration.

Check dates and registration details on the Discover Surrey BC website, and make this season (and every one that follows) a celebration of curiosity, creativity, and connection—right here in Surrey.
