Tu earns WHL honour for second time

For the week ending Dec. 14, White Rock WHL netminder wins weekly honour for 2nd time this season after another standout run in goal. Eric Tu was named Mary Brown’s Chicken WHL Goaltender of the Week thanks to a 2‑0‑0 record, a 0.50 goals‑against average and a .979 save percentage, plus one shutout.

It is the second time this season Tu has collected the award, after first winning it in November. The recognition cements his status as one of the league’s brightest young goaltending prospects.

Big weekend against Red Deer

Tu’s latest award came on the back of two stellar outings against the Red Deer Rebels. On Friday, Dec. 12, he made 20 saves in a 4‑1 win at the Scotiabank Saddledome, giving up only a single goal in the second period before shutting the door in the third.

The next night in Red Deer, he went one better. Tu stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Hitmen rolled to a 9‑0 victory. His performance included 13 saves in the middle frame and earned him third-star honours despite the lopsided score.

Season numbers among WHL’s best

Now in his second WHL campaign, Tu continues to post impressive season statistics. He sits at 11‑7‑2‑0 with a 2.37 goals‑against average, a .911 save percentage and two shutouts, ranking near the top of league leaderboards in each category.

Over his WHL career, he holds an 18‑12‑4‑1 record with a 2.86 GAA, a .896 save percentage and three shutouts. The Calgary Hitmen selected him 31st overall in the second round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, and their investment is clearly paying off.

Hitmen climbing Eastern Conference standings

The White Rock WHL netminder wins weekly honour for 2nd time this season at a key moment for his club. Coming out of the weekend sweep, the Hitmen sit fifth in the WHL’s Eastern Conference and remain firmly in the playoff hunt.

If Tu maintains his current form, he not only boosts Calgary’s chances but also strengthens his own case as one of the most exciting young goaltenders to emerge from the Lower Mainland in recent years.
