Suspect Located and Arrested in Surrey

A 25-year-old man wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in Winnipeg has been taken into custody in Surrey, British Columbia.

According to officials, the suspect was attempting to conceal his identity when officers recognized him on March 26. The arrest was carried out by members of B.C.’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU), an agency focused on tackling organized and gang-related crime.

Part of National “Most Wanted” Campaign

The suspect had been listed in the national BOLO (Be On the Look Out) program, which highlights Canada’s most wanted individuals. Police say he took deliberate steps to avoid being identified, but officers were able to act quickly due to training and vigilance.

Authorities credit both law enforcement coordination and public awareness efforts for helping bring the case forward.

Coordination Between B.C. and Winnipeg Police

Following the arrest, B.C. officers worked closely with Winnipeg Police Service to arrange the suspect’s return to Manitoba.

He remains in custody and is expected to face further legal proceedings in Winnipeg.

Background of the 2024 Homicide Case

The charges stem from a September 2024 case involving a 22-year-old man from Ontario. Police had initially responded to reports of a missing person in Winnipeg.

The victim was later found deceased at a residence several days after being reported missing.

Two other individuals have already been charged in the case, facing counts that include first-degree murder, kidnapping, and extortion. The suspect arrested in Surrey was later identified as an additional accused and formally charged.

Authorities Highlight Public Safety Efforts

Officials say the arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration between police agencies and national awareness programs aimed at locating high-risk suspects.

Programs like BOLO continue to play a key role in engaging the public and supporting law enforcement efforts to improve community safety.
