Salvation Army Surrey Seeks Volunteers for Christmas Kettle Drive

The Salvation Army in Surrey is calling on local residents to lend a hand this holiday season as it prepares for its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign, running from November 21 to December 24.

Funds collected through the campaign will directly support programs in Surrey, including the organization’s weekly food distribution service and community church initiatives, said Peggy Leung, community engagement specialist.

“Your time at the kettle will help change lives in your community, one donation at a time,” the organization noted in its volunteer appeal.

A Tradition of Giving

The Kettle Campaign first began in 1891 in San Francisco, California, and has since become a cherished holiday tradition across the world. Each year, volunteers stand beside the iconic red kettles, greeting passersby and collecting donations that support local families in need.

In Surrey, every dollar raised stays within the city to assist residents facing food insecurity and financial hardship during the holiday season.

Volunteer Details

Volunteers will be placed at various locations throughout Surrey and asked to:

  • Stay for the full duration of their assigned shift.
  • Answer questions from the public.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

While there are no fixed weekly hours, volunteers should be available for Monday–Saturday shifts, including daytime, evening, weekend, and split shifts.
