Hundreds gathered in White Rock and South Surrey to honour Canada’s heroes this Remembrance Day with parades, tributes, and community pride.

A Community United in Honour

Under crisp autumn skies, the people of White Rock and South Surrey came together on November 11 for a day of remembrance that was as moving as it was unifying. The streets filled with the sound of drums, the flutter of flags, and the quiet reverence of a community saying, “We will remember them.”

Marching with Pride

Before the ceremonies began, hundreds joined a spirited parade down Johnston Road. Families, veterans, and students stood shoulder to shoulder, waving small flags and pausing in silence as the procession passed. The energy was warm, the mood reflective, and the pride unmistakable.

Paying Tribute at the Cenotaph

More than a thousand people gathered at the White Rock cenotaph for the annual Remembrance Day service. The air was filled with emotion as wreaths were laid and heads bowed in gratitude. Among the dignitaries were White Rock Mayor Megan Knight, MP Ernie Klassen, and MLA Trevor Halford, each paying tribute to those who served and sacrificed.

Crescent Beach Comes Together

Just down the coast, the Crescent Beach community gathered outside the local Legion under golden sunlight. Residents listened quietly as students from Elgin Park Secondary recited In Flanders Fields, their young voices carrying the weight of remembrance across the crowd.

Local leaders, including South Surrey MLA Brent Chapman and Surrey Councillor Gordon Hepner, joined veterans in laying wreaths at the cenotaph a timeless act of respect that bridged generations.

A Day of Reflection and Gratitude

Bagpipes played softly as Piper Larry Gillott, Legion Branch 240 president Scott McMahon, and Rev. Jim Krawchuk led moments of prayer and reflection. Every note seemed to echo the same message gratitude, remembrance, and unity.

As the ceremonies closed, the crowd lingered, sharing quiet conversations and heartfelt thanks. The day wasn’t just about looking back; it was about coming together to keep the memory of courage and sacrifice alive.
