Vets’ Nite Gala Celebrates Surrey’s Veterinary Community
The United South Asian Veterinary Association (United SAVA) hosted its annual Vets’ Nite Gala on November 15, 2025, at Surrey’s Grand Taj Banquet Hall — an evening dedicated to showcasing the compassion, commitment, and impact of the city’s veterinary professionals.
A Night of Celebration and Community
The public event brought together veterinarians, their families, community leaders, and supporters for more than five hours of music, food, networking, and recognition. Complimentary admission helped ensure community-wide participation and inclusivity.
Sponsors included several industry leaders:
• Royal Canin
• Zoetis
• True North Veterinary Insurance
• Merck
Surrey’s Mayor attended the event, commending veterinarians for their vital contributions to animal welfare, family well-being, and strengthening community bonds.
Honouring Dr. Hakam S. Bhullar
A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of Dr. Hakam S. Bhullar, a respected Surrey veterinarian and author of The Underdog: A Veterinarian’s Fight Against Racism and Injustice.
His memoir chronicles his decades-long journey, addressing systemic inequities and advocating for accessible, compassionate veterinary care.
Surrey’s Veterinary Excellence Recognized Nationally
The Gala also celebrated Surrey’s recent achievements on the national stage. Earlier this year, Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital was named the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association’s 2025 Practice of the Year, reflecting Surrey’s leadership in emergency and specialty animal care across the Lower Mainland.
Strengthening Community Connections
United SAVA continues to broaden its community outreach efforts, hosting events, supporting veterinarians, and advocating for greater inclusivity in veterinary education and practice. The Gala once again underscored the strong relationship between Surrey’s veterinary community and the diverse residents they serve.
A Night of Gratitude and Inspiration
The Vets’ Nite Gala celebrated both individual accomplishments and the collective strength of Surrey’s veterinary professionals. Attendees left with a renewed sense of unity and momentum, committed to advancing compassionate care and meaningful change in the field.
