Surrey’s Baby SPARK concerts delight little ones with music, movement, and fun, offering parents a calm, inspiring outing with their children.
Babies Dance and Sway at Surrey’s First Baby SPARK Concert
On a cozy Wednesday morning, Surrey Arts Centre welcomed a dozen tiny music lovers for the kickoff of its Baby SPARK series. The first show, “Rattle & Squeak,” featured the dynamic musical duo Sacha Levin and Annie Brown, who enchanted babies, toddlers, and their grown-ups for a lively 45-minute performance.
Parents and caregivers arrived early to enjoy pre-concert playtime, snacks, and a relaxed atmosphere before the music began. Levin, on djembe and hand pan, and Brown, violin in hand, guided the little audience through an imaginative journey of sound, rhythm, and movement.
From Soothing Notes to Lively Tunes
Levin encouraged youngsters to “travel to another planet” with gentle hand pan melodies, while Brown got everyone on their feet with spirited violin numbers. Throughout the show, children were invited to join in—or simply move at their own pace, honoring whatever mood they were in.
“This is our inaugural show,” Levin shared. “We’ve performed together in various ways before, but this was created specifically for this series. It’s been so much fun, and we hope to keep doing it.”
Local Musicians with Big Hearts
Both performers live in East Vancouver and are parents themselves. Brown, who grew up in Surrey, reflected on the venue’s evolution: “It’s wonderful to see this space thriving with programs like these. I used to engage in pottery and dance here, so this feels like a continuation of that community spirit. I really hope it continues.”
Baby SPARK: Calm, Inspiring, Family-Friendly
Baby SPARK is part of Surrey SPARK Stages, a performing arts initiative for young children organized by Surrey Civic Theatres. The series is designed to introduce kids to live performance in a nurturing, low-pressure environment.
“We understand that new parents are often tired and juggling many demands,” said Marnie Perrin, artistic director for Surrey SPARK Stages. “Our goal is to create a space where families can come as they are, enjoy music together, and simply have fun.”
Tickets for the Rattle & Squeak show were priced at $35 and available on purchase.surrey.ca, alongside upcoming Baby SPARK concerts and other Surrey Civic Theatres programming.

Upcoming Shows to Look Forward To
The next Baby SPARK performances are already scheduled:
