Looking for something fun, festive, and easy to enjoy this week? Surrey is glowing with holiday lights, concerts, family events, creative workshops, and so much more. Because there is so much happening, here’s a simple guide to help you choose where to go next.
Holiday Festivals & Winter Fun
The season feels bright all over the city, and you can experience it in many ways. To begin with, WinterFest at the Museum of Surrey runs until Dec. 20 with trees, crafts, displays, and scavenger hunts. Right outside City Hall, free skating at Civic Plaza runs to Feb. 16, and rentals stay only $5.
As you explore, you can also drop by the Gingerbread Village Showdown at Central City until Dec. 7. After that, you can stroll through the magical Noel Surrey light walk at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds until Dec. 28. Even more, the Victorian Christmas Evening on Dec. 6 brings harp music, treats, lantern-making, and Father Christmas at Historic Stewart Farm.
If you want hands-on fun, the Cedar Reindeer Workshop on Dec. 6 lets you weave cedar art with Semiahmoo First Nation artist Joan Williams. Later in the month, the farm also hosts an Evening Carol Sing on Dec. 20.
The Winter Ice Palace returns to Cloverdale Arena from Dec. 13 to Jan. 4, and the Bear Creek Christmas Train runs daily in December with both day and night rides—plus an appearance by the Grinch.
Concerts That Light Up the Season
Music lovers get many choices this week. First, you can enjoy An Elvis Christmas in Hawaii on Dec. 5–7 in White Rock. Right after that, the sparkling ABBA Christmas show lands at the Bell Performing Arts Centre on Dec. 5. More Nutcracker-inspired shows follow at Surrey Arts Centre throughout December, including The Story of the Nutcracker on Dec. 9 and The Fairy Doll on Dec. 10.
Talks, Food & Comedy
On Dec. 4, Bassem Youssef and Dr. Gabor Maté share a conversation on crisis and hope at the Bell Centre. At the end of each month, Ukrainian Soul Food nights offer perogies, borscht, and cabbage rolls. And for big laughs, The Debaters 20th Anniversary Holiday Special lands on Dec. 8 at the Bell Centre.
Plus, Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club runs shows every Friday and Saturday in Cloverdale.

Surrey is packed with places to shop local this season. To begin, you can visit the Indigenous Christmas Market on Nov. 29 in South Surrey. On Dec. 6, St. Helen’s Annual Christmas Market offers raffles, décor, books, and baked goods. Then on Dec. 13, the Gabrielle-Roy Winter Market brings 60 Francophone vendors to Newton.
If you want a market plus a good cause, the Skate Before Christmas Fundraiser on Dec. 13 supports young women battling cancer.
Community, Nature & Museums
Every month, the Repair Café at Guildford Library helps fix broken items for free. Over at the Museum of Surrey, visitors can explore rotating exhibits such as Our Connection to Hockey and The Ones We Met. You can also help Surrey grow greener by joining Community Tree Planting or Nature Work Parties in local parks.
Kids & Youth Programs
Newton Recreation Centre hosts many drop-off programs for ages 3–5, including gingerbread crafts, Christmas activities, dinosaur days, and space-themed sessions throughout December. Teens can join the Teen Christmas Party on Dec. 18 at Fleetwood Library. Young creatives can join the Youth Arts Council of Surrey, and kids aged 8–12 can join MYzone after-school programs at several locations.
Arts, Culture & Galleries
Surrey Muse meets monthly with presentations from writers and artists. Surrey Art Gallery features exhibits such as Kinesthesia and Echoes, while UrbanScreen lights up City Centre with outdoor digital art. Newton Cultural Centre also showcases local art, including the Holiday Card juried show from Dec. 2–13.
