‘Allegiance in Surrey’ Promises Deeper Drama and Local Thrills
Supinder Wraich returns to lead the third season of Allegiance in Surrey, premiering Jan. 7 on CBC-TV and CBC Gem. The hit police drama, set and filmed across Surrey, dives into stories inspired by real-life crime headlines.
New Season, Fresh Challenges
Season 3 of the CBC series explores gang violence, hostage rescues, and an emotional domestic assault case that strikes close to home. The opening episode, “Borderline Blue,” starts with a violent road rage case that pulls Detective Sabrina Sohal into witness protection. As the secrets unfold, Sabrina learns the cost of isolation and the strength found in trust.
“This season Sabrina is much more vulnerable,” Wraich said in a pre-Christmas call from Toronto. “She’s learning to rely on her partners and open up in ways she hasn’t before.”
Filmed Across Surrey’s Real Locations
Production for Season 3 began in mid-July and wrapped Nov. 7. The series once again highlights familiar local landmarks like the Serpentine River, where a shocking crime scene unfolds early in the season. Wraich and the production crew say Surrey’s diverse landscapes offer authentic backdrops for the intense storylines.
Filming mostly took place in summer to use longer daylight hours. “It gave us more time outdoors before dark,” Wraich explained. “The show looks better when filmed during sunrise or sunset. The lighting gives the scenes more depth and beauty.”
Balancing Fame and Life on Set
Wraich, who won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Performer earlier this year, said she spends most of her time between filming, learning lines, or visiting her family in Toronto. “People expect I’ve seen all of Surrey, but I mostly see the ‘Sabrina version’ of it,” she laughed. “I loved Uli’s in White Rock and Anh and Chi in Vancouver, but I rarely get time for restaurants.”
Behind the Camera: Learning to Direct
The actor also shadowed director David Frazee for the first two episodes of the season. The experience gave her new insight into production and storytelling. “I understood why we plan shoots around the sun. It’s all about the lighting and how it shapes emotion,” she said. Wraich hopes to direct a future episode of Allegiance in Surrey.
A Global Stage for a Surrey Story
Allegiance in Surrey continues to reach new audiences worldwide, broadcasting in the U.K., Australia, Europe, and Asia. The show’s representation of a Sikh Punjabi-Canadian police lead remains rare in international television. Wraich says that connection to culture and community gives the series its authentic heart.
Fans can stream Allegiance in Surrey Season 3 beginning Wednesday, Jan. 7, on CBC platforms.
