Start 2026 au naturel! Join Surrey’s Polar Bare skinny dip at Crescent Rock Beach for icy fun, bonfires, and a festive naked swim tradition.

Surrey Welcomes the New Year—Nude!

Some people celebrate New Year’s with champagne and confetti, while others prefer a splash of icy adventure completely au naturel. On Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, Surrey’s United Naturists will host their 18th annual Polar Bare skinny dip at Crescent Rock Beach, promising a brisk but exhilarating start to the year.

Dive Into Boundary Bay

The skinny dip kicks off at 1 p.m., right in the chilly waters of Boundary Bay, beneath the iconic 12-tonne Crescent Rock boulder. Participants are encouraged to strip down to their birthday suits, though New Year’s hats, limited festive clothing, body paint, and flags are warmly welcomed.

Getting there is simple: walk 100 metres south of Crescent Beach past the Christopherson Steps staircase, or descend via the west end of 24 Avenue stairs, then turn left to find the dip zone. Footwear like secure sandals or aquatic shoes is highly recommended to navigate the small rocky patch before the sandy flats.

Warm Up by the Bonfire

After braving the icy waters, swimmers can cozy up by a bonfire at Crescent Rock, ensuring everyone warms up safely.

Take the Polar Challenge

For the truly daring, the Mad Hatter’s Swim Club invites participants to complete the Triple Crown of Polar Bear swims: start at White Rock Beach at 12 noon, then Crescent Rock at 1 p.m., and finish at English Bay in Vancouver at 2:30 p.m..

Safety First

Organizers stress safety: do not walk on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway tracks. Trains can come at any time, and trespassing carries a $500 fine. BNSF police will patrol the area during the event to ensure everyone stays safe.
