Levitt’s Background and Role
Health Minister Adrian Dix appointed Levitt in January 2024. He serves as B.C.’s second Seniors Advocate after Isobel Mackenzie’s retirement. Levitt leads an independent office within government.
For over 30 years, Levitt championed senior rights locally, nationally, and internationally. Most recently, he led KinVillage in Delta as CEO since 2021. Before that, he directed Tabor Village in Abbotsford for over a decade.
Levitt also surveyed long-term care for Accreditation Canada. He holds a UBC undergraduate degree and a master’s from the University of North Texas Center for Studies in Aging.
Key Issues: Affordability and Aging in Place
Levitt identifies affordability as the top concern for seniors. In B.C., 80 percent of seniors own homes, higher than the general 70 percent. Most want to age in place.
However, high costs for taxes, maintenance, and insurance burden them. Nearly half of low-income senior homeowners skip needed repairs for safety or access. Levitt urges eligible seniors to defer property taxes after receiving bills.
His goal focuses on empowering seniors, families, and caregivers to access services. Levitt collaborates with officials and providers to promote healthy aging.
