Surrey home hit by gunfire overnight. Police suspect extortion and urge locals with tips or footage to come forward.

Gunfire Rocks Surrey’s Bear Creek Neighborhood

Surrey residents woke to a frightening scene early Saturday morning when gunshots rang out outside a home in the Bear Creek area. The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on January 17, 2026, at a residence on the 8600 block of Galway Crescent.

Lucky Escape for Occupants

When Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a home damaged by gunfire. Thankfully, the house was occupied at the time, and no one was harmed.

Investigation Points to Possible Extortion

SPS’s Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIS) immediately responded, and the Major Crime Section has taken over the investigation. While detectives are still in the early stages of their work, they suspect the shooting may be linked to extortion. Officers could return to the area to gather physical and digital evidence.

Police Seek Public Help

Authorities are urging anyone with information whether it’s CCTV, dashcam footage, or knowledge of the suspects’ identities to step forward. Tips can be shared through the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca. Reference file number 26-5510 (SP) when providing information.
