Celebrate the Year of the Horse at the Museum of Surrey on Feb. 21 with free performances, cultural activities, and Lunar New Year traditions for all ages.
Cloverdale Prepares for a Joyful Lunar New Year
The Museum of Surrey will soon burst with color, sound, and celebration. On Saturday, Feb. 21, the museum will welcome the Year of the Horse with its annual Lunar New Year festival. The event will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and promises a lively afternoon for families, friends, and visitors from across Surrey.
Best of all, the celebration is free and open to everyone.
A Festival Built on Community Spirit
Community connection sits at the heart of this event. Ying Liu from the Chinese Village Club shared a warm message about the festival’s meaning.
“The community is our cozy home, and festivals are the sunshine within it,” Liu said. “When neighbours celebrate together, bonds grow stronger, and shared spaces feel alive.”
Because of this spirit, the festival focuses on togetherness, learning, and joy.
Live Performances Fill the Afternoon
Visitors can expect a full schedule of live entertainment. Throughout the afternoon, performers will bring tradition and creativity to the stage.
The lineup includes dragon dance teaching, poetry readings, traditional and modern dance, tai chi demonstrations, and storytelling. Meanwhile, interactive activity areas will invite guests to join in rather than just watch.
As a result, the festival offers something for every age group.
A Chance to Learn and Celebrate Together
The Museum of Surrey is hosting the event in partnership with the Chinese Village Club. Together, they aim to spotlight Lunar New Year traditions from Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures.
Also known as the Spring Festival, Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations across Asia. In some countries, the festivities can last up to 40 days. Therefore, this event offers a meaningful window into a rich and lasting tradition.
