Comedy meets music as Vancouver’s Middle Aged Boy Band brings its improv parody tour to Surrey, Delta, and Langley this fall.
Nostalgia and Laughter on Tour
Vancouver’s The Comedy Department is bringing its hit improv parody, Middle Aged Boy Band, to Surrey, Delta, and Langley this fall. The show, launched just last year, blends live music, audience interaction, and cheeky choreography into a celebration of boy band culture — with a middle-aged twist.
Inspiration from a Backstage Joke
The concept emerged from a candid conversation among the cast about aging in show business. Denise Jones, a founding member, said, “It’s like Backstreet Boys — but for our age group. We wanted to embrace where we are in life and make people laugh.” The timing coincided with real boy band reunions, amplifying audience interest.
Where Fans Can Catch the Show
The Surrey performance is set for Friday, September 26, at the Bell Performing Arts Centre, featuring Allen Morrison, David Milchard, Matt Clarke, and Michael Teigen. Delta’s Genesis Theatre will host the group on October 24, followed by a Langley show at Chief Sepass Theatre on October 25. Ticket prices range from $41 to $46.
Why the Show Resonates
According to Jones, the comedy works because it’s both nostalgic and inclusive. Audiences range from lifelong boy band fans to newcomers drawn in by the improv format. “We don’t mock aging — we celebrate it,” she said. The mix of upbeat music, spontaneous lyrics, and over-the-top dance moves makes each performance unique.
A Proven Comedy Formula
The Comedy Department has earned accolades, including a 2025 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award. Known for creative productions like The Comic Strippers and Canadian Steam, the troupe’s latest project continues its tradition of parodying pop culture with warmth and wit.
How to Join the Fun
Audiences can expect unscripted “love songs made up on the spot,” interactive skits, and a dose of boy band charm. Full tour details and ticket information are available at middleagedboyband.com.
