Kelowna YouTuber “Scott Eats” smashes Parksville’s legendary Fisherman’s Challenge, finishing the massive seafood feast in record time.

A Seafood Feast Like No Other

What usually takes a group of friends to finish, one man polished off in under 20 minutes. Kelowna-based competitive eater and YouTuber Scott Watkins, better known online as Scott Eats, recently became the first person ever to conquer the Fisherman’s Challenge at French Creek Pub in Parksville.

The dish, usually shared among a table, is a towering platter stacked with three pieces of cod, three halibut fillets, popcorn shrimp, shrimp skewers, calamari, lobster rolls, onion rings, coleslaw, and fries—served with both tartar and cocktail sauce.

Breaking an “Unbeatable” Record

Pub owners Marc Klijnsmit and Santanna Portman revealed that the challenge started with a strict 30-minute clock. But after repeated failures, the time was stretched to 40 minutes. Even then, no one had managed to clear the board.

That is, until Watkins arrived. He not only crushed the platter but also did it in just 17 minutes, less than half the allotted time.

Dessert? Why Not

As if the seafood feast wasn’t enough, Watkins then turned to a brand-new menu item called The Firework. Imagine 10 scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, cherries, three sauces—chocolate, caramel, and strawberry—plus a rainbow slice of cake on top. Watkins polished it off with ease.

A Veteran of Extreme Eat

This wasn’t Watkins’ first showdown with Parksville’s food scene. In 2023, he tackled and conquered Extreme Eatery’s 12-pound Goliath Burger and poutine challenge. Over the past six years, he has completed roughly 270 food challenges across North America.

Among his most jaw-dropping victories: a 15-pound burrito demolished in 30 minutes. On the flip side, his most painful battle? A fiery taco contest in Las Vegas that left him downing a gallon of water and a milkshake just to cool off.

How He Trains for the Impossible

You might wonder how someone prepares for eating mountains of food. Watkins’ method is surprisingly simple. After his normal lunch, he drinks a full gallon of electrolyte water to expand his stomach. Six days a week, that’s his routine. On the seventh day? He hits an all-you-can-eat buffet to push his limits further.

He even counts each challenge itself as practice.

Advice From the Pro

So, what tips does he have for anyone tempted to follow in his footsteps? Watkins laughs before answering:
“First of all—don’t do it. But if you do, practise, stay safe, and always have a second person nearby.”
