British Columbia’s tech and life sciences sectors are gearing up for global collaboration after new partnerships were announced during recent trade talks in India.
B.C.’s Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth led a delegation to Bengaluru, India’s leading tech hub — to deepen economic relationships and explore opportunities in innovation, digital health, biotechnology, and clean technology. The meetings included discussions with representatives from Karnataka’s state government and leading industry partners.
A key outcome was a letter of intent focused on closer collaboration between companies in B.C and Bangalore, one of India’s fastest-growing innovation ecosystems. This partnership aims to support the development of new medical technologies, biotech research and digital health solutions that can reach international markets.
Government officials said the initiative aligns with B.C.’s broader strategy to diversify its trade relationships and position the province as a global tech hub. Partnerships with international technology centres can help local startups and life sciences companies access talent, investment and new customers abroad.
B.C. already counts more than 12,000 tech companies in sectors including artificial intelligence, clean tech, and software development, making it one of the fastest-growing innovation ecosystems in North America.
Experts say these international relationships could create new jobs, attract foreign investment and help smaller B.C. firms grow beyond domestic markets. Industry leaders also note that global collaboration supports research and development in cutting-edge fields such as medical devices and digital health.
