High Demand for Hello Kitty Transit Cards
Transit users and Hello Kitty fans rushed to get their hands on a special edition Compass Card released by TransLink in partnership with Sanrio. The collectible cards, featuring four unique designs, were made available Saturday morning.
The response was overwhelming, with supplies disappearing almost immediately after launch.
Pop-Up Event Draws Large Crowds
A dedicated pop-up shop at Metrotown became the focal point of the release, where dozens of fans lined up early in anticipation. The limited cards were also briefly offered online, but demand quickly exceeded availability.
Shortly before 11 a.m., TransLink confirmed that the event had reached full capacity and all items were sold out.
More Than Just Compass Cards
Alongside the transit passes, the launch included a range of Hello Kitty-themed merchandise, adding to the excitement surrounding the event. The collaboration brought together transit users and collectors alike.
Part of a Growing Trend of Themed Releases
While this marks TransLink’s first collaboration with Sanrio, the organization has previously released themed Compass Cards featuring popular characters and franchises, including Captain Canuck, DC superheroes, and holiday-themed designs.
Collectible Transit Cards Continue to Gain Popularity
Limited-edition Compass Cards have become highly sought-after items, often attracting long lines and quick sellouts. The Hello Kitty release further highlights the growing interest in collectible transit passes across Metro Vancouver.
