Road Closure in Effect Along East 1st Avenue

Drivers in Vancouver should be aware of a temporary road closure affecting East 1st Avenue near Highway 1. The closure is in place from early Sunday morning until Monday evening as crews carry out paving work.

The affected stretch runs between Boundary Road and Rupert Street, with traffic blocked in both directions.

Highway Access Ramps Also Impacted

Several on- and off-ramps connecting to Highway 1 at East 1st Avenue are also closed during this period. The only exception is the eastbound off-ramp, which remains open.

Additionally, Boundary Road is closed between Graveley Street and East 2nd Avenue, further impacting traffic flow in the area.

Drivers Advised to Plan Ahead

City officials are urging motorists to prepare for delays and consider alternate routes, especially those who typically use East 1st Avenue to access Highway 1.

While vehicle traffic is affected, pedestrian access remains open and unchanged.

Part of Ongoing Infrastructure Upgrades

The repaving work is part of broader improvements along the corridor. Planned upgrades include enhanced pedestrian crossings, new curb ramps, and improved road design features.

Additional changes include a dedicated left-turn lane at Valiant Street and the installation of a centre median to improve traffic flow and safety.

More Work Expected Later This Month

Final touches, including road markings and line painting, are scheduled to be completed later in the month as part of the overall project.
