Broadway Reopens at Main Street After Months of Construction
After nearly four months of major disruption, East Broadway between Main Street and Quebec Street has reopened to vehicle traffic. Crews reopened one lane in each direction this week following extensive road reconstruction connected to the future Mount Pleasant Station.
The closure, which began earlier this year, caused significant challenges for drivers, transit users, and local businesses throughout the Mount Pleasant area.
Officials say additional road and sidewalk improvements will continue through the summer even though traffic has resumed.
Another Major Broadway Closure Is About to Begin
While some commuters are relieved to see one stretch reopen, transportation officials are already preparing for another large closure tied to the Broadway Subway Project.
The next major shutdown is expected to impact West Broadway between Alberta Street and Cambie Street near Broadway-City Hall Station. Officials say the closure could last up to six months as crews remove traffic deck structures and rebuild the roadway above the future station.
Drivers will be redirected through detour routes along West 8th Avenue and surrounding streets during construction.
Broadway Subway Project Continues Reshaping Vancouver Traffic
The Broadway Subway Project is one of the largest transportation infrastructure projects currently underway in British Columbia. The Millennium Line extension will eventually expand SkyTrain service west from VCC-Clark Station to Arbutus Street.
